Serene reflection of trees in the vast Angkor Wat moat water

H1. ย (Introduction)

Date: March 2026

This was my second time cycling to the ZTO Express outlet in Siem Reap. The infrastructure here is surprisingly good, with smooth asphalt roads stretching around the Angkor Wat area. However, in the peak of the dry season, even the best roads can’t shield you from the intense heat. On my way back with a package, the shimmer of the Angkor Wat moat was a welcome sight, prompting a much-needed break.

H2๏ผšThe Heat vs. The Smooth Ride

Cycling on the well-maintained asphalt roads around Angkor Wat is a smooth experience, free from the dust one might expect. But in March, the heat is the main protagonist. The sun beats down on the black pavement, radiating back up as you pedal. Reaching the vast moat of Angkor Wat feels like finding an oasis. The micro-climate created by the water offers immediate relief from the relentless dry season sun.

H3๏ผšObserving the “Relieved” Travelers

As I rested by the water, I watched many Tuk-Tuks passing by, carrying Western tourists. Even from a distance, their joy was palpable. Many were laughing and chatting animatedly, appearing deeply “relieved.” I realized that for them, as for me, feeling the cool lake breeze after moving through the heat was the ultimate luxury. They looked completely at ease, enjoying the simple pleasure of the wind on their faces as they glided along the scenic moat.
